Resources I Like

Here is a hodgepodge of websites I regularly visit to do research, read interesting articles, or just find inspiration.

Neuroscience Research

  • BrainIAK Tutorials: During my second year in graduate school, I took an advanced fMRI analysis class that served to pilot the tutorials that make part of the Brain Imaging Analysis Kit (BrainIAK). These tutorials are incredibly useful when analyzing complicated fMRI data.
  • Peter Scarfe's Pyschtoolbox Tutorials: Dr. Scarfe's tutorials for Psychtoolbox, a software package that enables researchers to program experiments in MATLAB, were a life-saver! When I programmed my first experiment, I had very little programming experience but Dr. Scarfe's well-commented scripts helped me figure things out.

Professional Development & Productivity

  • National Center for Faculty Diversity and Development: I have a membership to this great resource through my University. I have especially benefitted from the 14-day Writing Challenge!
  • Cal Newport's Blog: I am a long-time reader of Dr. Newport's blog and I have read a couple of his books. I like the practical advice he provides on how to organize our busy lives (as academics) and to push ourselves to avoid distractions to do hard, meaningful work.

Christian Ministries

  • Boundless: I came across this ministry from Focus on the Family (that is geared for young adults) while in college. Although I no longer have the time to read a lot of the articles, I still enjoy listening to the podcasts while I am doing chores or exercising. The podcast covers many different topics, from navigating relationships to financial stewardship.
  • Desiring God: I also came across this website while in college and I enjoy the fact that you can search for sermons and articles by topics. I have often been encouraged by John Piper's sermons.
  • Revive Out Hearts (podcast): I was first introduced to Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth by a great friend I met during my commute to work while I was a research assistant. The podcast features interviews on thought-provoking topics.

Finding Inspiration

  • Daniel and Katherine Hwang on SoundCloud: I absolutely love to listen to the music my close college friends produce. Their music inspires and encourages... I always feel uplifted after listening to their lovely music. Also, their album The Princeton Sessions makes me feel nostalgic and warm and fuzzy inside whenever I listen to it!
